Abstract

Distributed parameter systems (DPSs) or infinite-dimensional systems have a wide range of application areas in fluid flows, combustion, aerospace structures, chemical processes, ocean rigs, quantum mechanics, etc, just to name a few. Different from finite-dimensional systems or lumped parameter systems, DPS is commonly used to model spatial-temporal evolutionary processes and systems where the state spaces are infinite dimensional functional spaces. Mathematically, systems with delays or described by partial differential equations (PDEs) are main benchmark models of DPSs and stability analysis as well as control synthesis become quite challenging due to the essence of infinite dimensionality. In this talk, the main progress of Iterative Learning Control (ILC) of DPSs are summarized, where the applications include stretched moving string, trailing-edge flap lift enhancement, wind turbine, and compressor stator cascade, etc. All these results reveal that, as one of the feedforward control schemes, ILC is capable of dealing with tracking and optimization problems of DPSs with parametric and non-parametric uncertainties. Meanwhile, the potential ways from which ILC might be extended for more general DPSs are also presented.
